Is your Audit Committee Effective? January 2015

Designed for members of the Audit Committee and those who customarily attend this committee, this 2 hour workshop will bring you up to date with the standards expected and allow you to check that the constitution, Terms of Reference and engagement (at, and outside the committee meetings) is up to scratch in terms of current regulatory standards.

The PRA and FCA are examining the structure, powers and rigour of Audit Committees and are asking more questions about matters such as the independence of this key group and the degree to which they challenge the information they receive. The challenging question is – how do you know your Audit Committee is effective?

The event will be held in the City of London between 10 am and 12 noon on the 5th February 2015.

Led by an experienced consultant, the agenda covers the current standards and what the oversight role involves particularly the interface with risk management or when a joint Audit and Risk Committee is in place. Simple compliance with standards is no longer the answer. The final part of the agenda will explain how to ensure your Committee is effective and be able to respond to the challenge from regulators to demonstrate effectiveness. You will:

  • Understand what the Terms of Reference must contain to be up to date and reflect current thinking
  • Recognise what key competencies Members should have
  • Know how the Audit Committee should interface with Compliance, risk management, internal audit and external auditors
  • Know what “effective” means in this context and what information will be essential to be effective
  • Understand the importance of the minutes and what must be recorded to reflect the value that the Audit Committee adds.
  • Consider what challenges you may receive from a regulatory review and how to address these beforehand
  • Know the current issues, including recent guidance on the role of internal audit and of the audit committee from the FRC, the IIA and others

We look forward to seeing you there.
